Dolphin therapy

Delfinotherapy is a form of assisted therapy that uses dolphins as an integral part of the treatment process. The Santa Marta Aquarium has incorporated this therapy into its activities due to the benefits that have been observed in people with various diseases or pathologies. Dolphin-assisted therapy takes place in an environmentally controlled aquatic setting over a period of 30 minutes where patients can interact with dolphins under the supervision of professionals. In addition to interacting with dolphins, one of the highlights of dolphin therapy is the use of dolphin sound, emitting ultrasonic frequencies that are inaudible to humans but can have stimulating effects on people's central nervous system , which brings therapeutic benefits.

Reported benefits of dolphin therapy include improvement in participants' motor function, coordination, communication, social interaction, and mood . It has been used in the treatment of a variety of conditions, including autism, Down syndrome, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), cerebral palsy, and emotional disorders.

Activity details:

The meeting point is at the Rodadero North Pier at 7:00 AM (the departure can be done from 7:00 to 7:30 AM and takes place before the Aquarium opens its doors to the public).

- Transportation is by boat to the aquarium
- For the first session, the patient's companion must pay for boat transportation and entry to the aquarium . From the second session onwards, boat transportation and admission to the aquarium for the companion are free.
- 5 sessions are recommended, but it depends on the pathology and conditions of the patient as to whether they require more or fewer sessions.

The return to the Rodadero North Pier is from 7:30 to 8:00 AM
